Digital Photography Education for Kids Should Begin Early
What age do you think kids are ready to enter the world of digital photography education? You might be thinking 11 or 12 at least? Try five or six. Believe it or not, its true!
I fell into digital photography education for kids kina of by mistake. One summer I enrolled my oldest in a summer Photoshop course. And I think I started a life time love affair. The same thing happened with my second child this summer when I enrolled her in Gimp class.
Children are great lovers of the digital photography and software editing world today. Not only is it fun for them to learn, but it also gives them a tool they can work with in other areas of their education. What is the Best Age to get Kids involved in Digital Photography? I mentioned that I started mine out at the age of 10 and 11, but kids in general are probably ready for their first digital camera by the time they are 6. Havent you seen your 3 year old work on the paint program that windows comes with. Man, do they get good at that! So don't underestimate your child and think that his digital photography education can not begin by the time he is 5 or 6. What kind of Digital Camera do you get a Child? The best kind of digital camera you can get a child in order to expand his digital photography education is an inexpensive one. There are lots of $20 to $30 digital cameras on the market today. Ok so they are no brands, so what! This is a learning experience, remember. The Next Step in Their Digital Photography Education Download Gimp for him or her. Gimp is a photo editing software program similar to Photoshop or Photopaint and although it is a little difficult for you and for me too. It is not for them, because they see the learning process as play. So, for them they are not learning, but playing. Besides, being free Gimp has lots and lots of free tutorials that professional digital photographers have put online, because they truly believe this type of software should be available for free. The End Results Once your child has gotten the hang of their own digital camera and using the Gimp program, you will find they have great interest in it, and their interests include adding their art to their book reports, to their book covers. Writing reports about what they have learned, getting creative when sending cards to their friends, even picking up summer jobs because they can use sophisticated software to some extent. Digital photography education in children opens up a world of doors for them, both in the creativity department and with their academics too. Try it and see what happens. All you have to do is get them the camera, download the program and let them have access to it. Then you just sit back and enjoy looking at their works of art.
