Is There Such A Thing As A Complete Digital Photography Career?

Is There such a thing as a Complete Digital Photography Career?

There are a lot of differences between digital cameras and regular film cameras. And when deciding on fashion photography or a graphic arts career then you will see digital photography quite a bit during the course of the career. It is rare thought that digital photography be seen as a career in and of itself.

It may be that the field is too new, but it is most likely because the digital photography technology is still in its infancy stage. That is why many schools don't offer a digital photography career, but combine digital photography with traditional photography.

Today there are still many differences between traditional film and digital photography. That is why you see that most photographers have both types of cameras.

That gives rise to the question then of which type of camera to purchase first, when studying photography? That is a difficult question to answer and it really depends on where you want to go with your digital photography career and what the school is requiring from you.

Traditional cameras let you use a variety of films and film speeds, which will give you different effects in your photographs. And digital cameras on the other hand mix technology and photography. Many of the sought after artistic effects can be gotten by the use of the digital picture and specialized editing software like Photoshop.

If you are artistically inclined you may feel that what is being said about the digital camera is not really true, you may be of the opinion, that digital cameras do allow for great creativity. It may just be that the final image is not finished until it gets finished being edited.

Most people that specialize in some form of digital photography career, or traditional photography career, seem to agree that the digital camera is great for quick pictures, instant gratification, and a tool that can be worked with in editing programs.

The true die hard photographers feel thought that a truly great photograph can only be taken with real film. The special photographs usually get taken by a specialized film camera, and they are made to create something special. Many photographers whether they have specialized in a digital photography career or not, feel that digital pictures although very good, lack the romance of traditional photography.

It is difficult to say which is true? But as one photographer asked me; "How many movies have been made using digital equipment? The answer, is not very many. And they are never very good when they do come out.

Of course, the great thing about all this is that the new digital technology has caused the some of the great film equipment to come down in price.

The question of whether to go completely digital and focus solely on your digital photography career is again difficult to answer. We may keep film around for a while, but then again it may be a disappearing technology. It is truly sad to think about such a noble field disappearing into thin air.
